University Housing is accepting applications for students wishing to live on the Statesboro Campus.  First-year students are assigned utilizing their application complete date which is the date the $150 non-refundable application fee and online housing application are submitted. The first priority date for the Statesboro Campus is March 1 and for the Armstrong Campus is April 1. University Housing cannot guarantee that you will be assigned to your preferred room styles.

All first-year students are required to live on campus for their first year of enrollment.  Students who begin in the summer or fall are required to live on campus for the Fall and Spring terms, students who begin in the spring are only required to live on-campus for the Spring Semester.  First-Year students can apply for housing approximately two days after they have been admitted (applications are live on November 1) and the first priority deadline is March 1st (Statesboro) and April 1st (Armstrong). 

Students will apply for housing by using the  portal. If you have never logged into the  portal you will need to click on the First Time Users link on that page in order to establish your account.

Once logged into  you will need to look for the Campus Life tile and then the On-Campus Housing Portal link. You will click “Fall – Statesboro Application” or “Fall – Armstrong Application” at the top of the page and follow the steps below:

1. Start Application

2. Application Fee
Pay the $150 non-refundable application fee.

3. Room Preferences
Select your room style and roommate preference and complete the roommate matching questionnaire. Please note that first-year students will not be allowed to select spaces in Freedom’s Landing.

4. Create or Join a Roommate Group
Establish a roommate group through the housing application portal.

5. Sign Housing Contract
Look out for your contract invitation in email. Sign the housing contract in the on-campus Housing Portal.

6. Roommate Selection
View the roommate matching email and introduce yourself to your roommates.

7. Schedule a Move-In Time
In mid-to-late July, book a move-in timeslot appointment.

8. Prepare for Move-In
Move into the Residence Halls in August.

First Year Live On Requirement

First Year students who attend are required to live in on-campus housing during their first year of enrollment. The policy can be found online in the .

Any undergraduate student new to with less than 30 earned credit hours is required to live on campus for an entire academic year.  This requirement includes students accepted by the Office of Admissions as a first-time, full-time student (12 credits per semester) or a transfer student.

You may use the chart below to determine whether or not you are eligible for an exemption to the First Year Live-on Requirement. If you fall into the Eligible for an Exemption column for any of the reasons, you are able to request an exemption to the requirement. Please note that exemptions must be requested if you seek to secure an exemption.

For students who feel that the First Year Live-On Requirement policy is applied incorrectly to their individual circumstances, they may request a review of their appeal by completing the FYLOR Extenuating Circumstances Exemption Form below.

*For the 2025-2026 Academic Year, has temporarily increased the driving distance to 50 miles from your primary campus.

To request a special exemption from the First Year Live-On Requirement (FYLOR), a student must indicate why they think the policy is applied incorrectly to their individual circumstances.  Students should not request exemptions because they disagree with the policy or because they would prefer to live somewhere else.

Your request will be reviewed by the First Year Live-On Exemption Committee.  This committee meets beginning in January (for Summer & Fall semesters) and in November (for Spring semester).  The committee meets as needed, but approximately every 4-6 weeks.  You will be notified of the committee’s decision at the email address you provide.

Students should be prepared to provide supporting documentation to the committee based upon the nature of the exemption request (e.g. medical reports, financial information, etc.)

Students who request an exemption to the First Year Live-On Requirement after signing and completing a housing contract should understand that even if the committee grants the  exemption request, the student will remain subject to the cancellation fees listed in the housing contract under the section on cancelling if still enrolled.

The forms below are meant for incoming students requesting an exemption based on residency with parents within a 50-mile driving distance of the primary campus.
